How to handle a jury duty subpoena when you never received the initial letters?

I'm a New York resident who's been away for a year, and I've received a jury duty subpoena after my mom never gave me or told me about the initial letters. I'm wondering if there's a way to handle this outside of court, possibly through emailing or calling someone, or if I have to attend the scheduled court date.

It's worth a shot to call the court, but you can bet your summons will be there on the scheduled date.

Fill out the questionnaire online to speed up the process, then call the court to explain your situation. This might persuade them to cancel the subpoena. Even if not, it shows you've taken steps to resolve the issue.

Courts often handle these types of situations with leniency. You might be able to resolve the issue without any major consequences.

You can try calling or emailing the court, but it's likely you'll need to appear in court and explain your situation to the judge. Be prepared for a possible reprimand.

If you receive a subpoena, make sure to attend court. Although filling out an online questionnaire might lead to the subpoena being withdrawn, you won't know for sure until you receive a formal notification in the mail.
