Best Record Stores in Manhattan for Vinyl Enthusiasts?

Dienste 8 answers • Jared VJared V
My son is super into vinyl records and my wife and I are a little out of practice with where to go. We would always love taking a stroll through Virgin Megastore and then walk a few blocks to Colony Records. Does anyone have any good suggestions of places to go to check out some memorabilia and get a good selection of various musical media? I’m not super picky but would love to find somewhere in Manhattan vs the other boroughs if possible.

If you're planning a day trip, this is likely your best bet. Keep in mind that there's a larger store located downstairs near the ice rink, which offers a more extensive selection.

In New York City, the era of large music stores has come to an end. Many record stores have relocated to Brooklyn, where you can find small shops scattered throughout various neighborhoods. In Manhattan, you can discover smaller shops in the East Village and West Village areas. Academy Records on 18th Street in the Flatiron district has been a staple for a long time. Additionally, Rough Trade Records is located in Rockefeller Center, offering a more modern and touristy experience, similar to the Virgin store.

That's great information, thank you. I'm pretty sure I've visited Rough Trade, and I'll definitely check out Academy Records. Thank you.

The East Village and Lower East Side are home to a variety of indie record stores, including Academy Records, A1 Records, Ergot Records, Limited to One Records, and Earth Libraries. City Fun, a shop in the same area, boasts an impressive collection of band t-shirts and posters. You can also find a range of other unique stores in the neighborhood.
