Same day voter registration issues in Chicago?

I voted at the Britton Budd site in Lakeview and brought someone who needed same day registration. They were told that the registration wasn’t currently working and to “come back later”. Poll workers said they had not seen this before.

If you're having trouble voting, try calling the phone number for the local Board of Elections. This number should be posted in your area and available from poll workers. Unfortunately, it's not working as expected.

A voter was turned away from the polls and told to come back later. When he called the Board of Elections, the workers said they were working on the issue but couldn't help him then.

It's possible that some poll workers are new and don't know the registration process. In theory, voters should be able to register and cast a provisional ballot on the same day, but they may need to provide identification and proof of residency to get the right ballot.

I also experienced problems at a polling location in Pilsen this morning. People were on the phone trying to get help, and it was around 7:30 am.
