What to do when an elementary school in Montreal's Ahuntsic neighborhood covers up teacher abuse?

I've been shocked by the elementary school in our neighborhood. Despite repeated complaints of violence, intimidation, and humiliation of 6-7 year old students, the school's administration protects the teacher. The process to address the issue has been dragging on for 7 months, and I'm starting to think that my child will need to develop a thick skin to survive this school. This year, it's the cafeteria monitor who yells at students for minor infractions, and I'm at my wit's end. I've heard that going to the media with evidence of abuse is a good way to get the school to take action. Can anyone advise on what to do next?

I work for the CSSDM. Go to the media, especially Bedford if you're a credible source and there are other parents who are also concerned. There are likely teachers who are willing to testify anonymously, but we have a duty of loyalty, so unless the teacher plans to quit, it won't be done publicly.

I'm curious to know which school this is. Personally, I haven't seen any abuse, but I've seen incompetence and heard disturbing stories about certain schools.

I hope this isn't a widespread issue, but it's clear that there's a pattern of incompetence and small-mindedness at this school.

I tried to get a permanent position at the CSSDM, but it just made me quit teaching altogether. Our schools are Kafkaesque, and it's a wonder that we have any competent teachers.

I agree with going to the media with evidence, just like what happened at the Bedford school.

Try to get as many parents as possible to join you in speaking out, gather evidence, and then consider going to the media. If half the class doesn't show up for a week, it's a good story for the media to pick up.

I don't understand why the school environment is treated like a separate entity. Aggression is aggression, and we should pursue it through the proper channels, not just let the school handle it.

As a parent, if I suspected a problem that could affect my child's health, I would take charge of the situation: hire an attorney, go to the media, and if necessary, involve the police.
