Clemente's Legacy Lives On in Cayey's Schools
On Roberto Clemente Walker Day last Wednesday, September 30, young athletes from the Eugenio María de Hostos School in Cayey commemorated the baseball legend’s 3,000th hit milestone. Mayor Rolando Ortiz Velázquez and Karla Bernand, coordinator of the municipal Escuela Al Día (School Up-to-Date) program, recognized the students' efforts in keeping the late player’s legacy alive.

Special Education teacher Michelle Solovin shared a message with the students, encouraging them to continue being winners, not just in sports, but in life. She reminded them to participate, give their best, respect their teammates, help those in need, and enjoy life together.
Mayor Ortiz Velázquez highlighted Clemente’s contributions beyond his athletic achievements, emphasizing his role as a human being who taught the community to use their successes to inspire and help others.
The celebration was not just a remembrance but a call to action for young people in Cayey to carry on the legacy of this Puerto Rican icon.
