Campus América 2026 Brings Chilean Flavor to La Laguna: A Must-Visit for Expats and Digital Nomads
San Cristóbal de La Laguna is set to host Campus América 2026 from 19 to 30 October, with Chile as the special guest country. As a digital nomad myself, this event is a culinary and cultural feast not to be missed, especially for those of us based in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Organised by the University of La Laguna, the event features 30 research seminars, thematic exhibitions, and a packed schedule of activities. The launch at Casa de los Capitanes was attended by key figures, including the mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, and University rector Francisco J. García. Gutiérrez highlighted the importance of promoting interculturalism and enhancing the international profile of both the university and the city.
The event will feature 300 speakers from 56 universities across 14 countries, with a significant highlight being the Conference of Rectors from Spanish and Chilean universities. The opening ceremony on 19 October at the Paraninfo will see participation from the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and a keynote speech by Carlos Malamud, focusing on Latin America's international position amid global unrest.
Sara González, the director of Internationalisation at the ULL, noted that the programme will explore common themes between Chile and the Canary Islands, such as isolation, desalination, and ocean-related issues. This is a fantastic opportunity for networking, learning, and experiencing the rich academic and cultural exchange that Campus América represents.
