Is smoking allowed at Riu Palace Riviera Maya?

I'm planning a first long stay in Playa del Carmen and I'm a smoker. I use heated tobacco and I realized it's illegal to take it with me. I'll be staying at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya for a week.

Smoking on the balcony is not allowed. However, if you want to smoke, you can do so in the parking lot without being disturbed.

We were smoking on the balcony until someone reported us, then we just roughed the night and early morning

It seems the hotel was quite particular about smoking on the balcony. I recall seeing guests smoking in the parking lot without any issues.
