Should I retract my baby's foreskin for cleaning?

I have a 9-month-old baby who isn't circumcised. We just met a new pediatrician who recommended that we lower the foreskin from 4 months on for cleaning.

I'm an uncircumcised man. It's not necessary to pull it back as far as possible, but rather to pull it back to make sure it's clean, otherwise it can get infected and be painful. The foreskin is meant to retract.

As a man with foreskin, I don't remember if my parents did anything like this, but I do recall my dad telling me how to clean it when I was young, and I'd slowly pull it back without any issues.

Based on my experience with many doctors in Panama, it's always best to seek second opinions. There are many cases of negligence here, and you shouldn't take a doctor's word at face value.

If you need to do it to clean and prevent smegma accumulation, I recommend using a gentle soap like Bioderma for your baby's bath.
