I'm a 42-year-old immigrant and a POC, planning to move to Montreal from Vancouver. I work in software and see more opportunities in Montreal for my role, but I don't know French yet and will be a slow learner. I'd like to know if it's hard to survive without French for a few months and how it is living as a POC in Montreal.

While speaking English is sufficient, you'll likely miss out on various aspects of life in Montreal. People of colour may find acceptance, but there are still individuals with discriminatory attitudes.

Having a job lined up before moving to Montreal can alleviate relocation stress. However, I wouldn't consider moving here without a guaranteed job.

Language is the primary factor in determining success in Montreal, regardless of age, immigration status, or ethnicity. For instance, French-speaking Vietnamese immigrants tend to fare better than non-French-speaking white immigrants.

Montreal's multicultural environment means ethnicity doesn't significantly impact opportunities. Nevertheless, proficiency in the French language is crucial for accessing most social and professional opportunities.
