Should I rent a car for my LA trip or use public transportation?

I'm visiting LA for the first time from Oct 17th-Oct 20th by myself. I want to visit Santa Monica Pier, do a whale tour near Long Beach, visit Rodeo Drive/Beverly Hills, and do the Griffith Observatory. I've secured a rental for $90 for my entire stay, plus gas and parking.

Renting a car in LA can be a cost-effective option, especially if you're not staying in a central area like the beach or Downtown LA. A car provides a convenient way to get around the city.

I'm glad this information is helpful! I was initially under the impression that renting a car was relatively cheap, but I've since learned that it's not just about the base rental cost. For example, some rental companies require a $200 deposit when you pick up the car, which is refundable as long as you fill up the tank before returning it.

Do the rental for sure

I was about to say public transportation is fine, but then you mentioned Long Beach, which is a significant distance from other parts of the city. Taking public transport to Long Beach can be a lengthy trip, and if you factor in the cost of an Uber or taxi for the round trip, it's not much cheaper.

My main concern is visiting Long Beach, which is a must-see for me. I want to make sure I'm prepared for the trip, especially since it's a significant distance from other parts of the city.

As someone who frequently books workers in LA, I can attest that renting a car is often more economical than relying on ride-hailing services, especially if you plan to use it for multiple trips. The city's size and one-way streets make it difficult to navigate without a car, and an Uber ride can be more expensive than a day's rental.

It's worth noting that driving in LA can be a stressful experience, especially in areas like Downtown LA, where there are many one-way streets and pedestrians. Additionally, some areas like Downtown Santa Monica can be congested due to the Expo Line running at street level and the high volume of pedestrians.

I appreciate the helpful information and advice. It's clear that renting a car can be a good option for getting around LA, especially if you plan to use it for multiple trips.
