From the Western Terminal, you can take the 34 bus, but it only runs every hour or more. From Santa Tecla, you can take either the 42 or the 101 bus.

Actually, there's a website called Cartorux that shows the routes of some buses, but not all.

From Santa Tecla, you can take the 101a or 101b bus, which will drop you off near the Plaza Gerardo Barrios or the Palacio Nacional. From the Western Terminal, you can take the 34a or 34b bus, which will take you directly to the historic center.

From the Western Terminal, you can take a microbus on route 4, which will drop you off two blocks from the historic center. Just tell the driver to let you know when you're getting close.
