I was driving on the 107 highway and someone tried to pass me when it was not safe. I was doing the speed limit and they ended up cutting me off. I'm not sure what to do in situations like this.

In situations where you're unsure about what to do, it's always best to prioritize caution and avoid taking unnecessary risks.

Defensive driving is becoming increasingly important as a survival technique, especially on busy roads like Highway 401. I prefer to sit back and drive at the speed limit, or 10 km/h over it on a divided highway, and get home safely to spend time with my loved ones.

If you notice someone is about to make a reckless move, it's a good idea to give them plenty of space by moving over to your own lane before they get close.

If you get a bad read on a situation from a distance, you can often avoid a potential problem by speeding up and taking away the opportunity for the other driver to make a mistake, but this requires a good understanding of the road and the other drivers.

In my opinion, the driver who tried to pass at that speed and time was being reckless, but even if you're not at fault in an accident, it's still a good idea to slow down and avoid a collision. If I had noticed what they were doing, I would have probably slowed down to give them more space, and I would have been more aware of the speed limit, which was 80 km/h.

The rule for lane merging at 111A is that when two lanes of a street or highway merge into one lane, the driver in the left lane must yield to the driver in the right lane unless there's a sign directing the right lane driver to yield to the left lane.
