My husband is visiting Chicago and he's a big fan of specialty teas. He's been looking for a good place to try some unique teas, but so far, he's been disappointed. Can you recommend a good specialty tea in the Chicago area?

I used to enjoy a sweet pineapple tea at a cafe near the intersection of State Street and Grand Avenue. Unfortunately, it's no longer available. I've found a decent alternative at Chicago Teahouse, which is located on Division Street.

I was sad when the store closed, but I'm glad to know that the company still sells tea online. I place a few orders each year, and I appreciate their continued presence in the tea community.

I used to go to a tea shop that was located in a former storefront. Unfortunately, it's no longer open, but I've heard that they collaborated with Three Houses to create custom tea blends at some point.

I've been meaning to try Taian, but it's a bit out of my way. Chicago's East Asian and gongfu tea scene is surprisingly underdeveloped for a city of its size. I've had some good traditional teas at Eli Tea Bar, and the Yemeni and Palestinian cafes in the area serve excellent karak tea.

In the past, I've visited the Coffee and Tea Exchange to purchase their flavored teas. If you're willing to venture into the suburbs, there's a tea shop that offers higher-quality flavored teas and a rewards program. They also have a wide selection of loose-leaf teas.
