Do City Information boards in Chicago display actual city information?

I've seen these boards in crowded areas and they take up a lot of sidewalk space. I've always assumed they just display ads. Are they supposed to show something else too?

These digital signs often feature a button that, when pressed, displays a map of the surrounding area. This can be particularly useful in cities where map apps may be unreliable.

A button on the right side of the digital sign shows information about the city.

Historically, these digital signs were a replacement for physical maps and scrolling advertisements. Around 2018-2020, they transitioned to a fully digital format, incorporating a small button to display a map. Unfortunately, this button is often difficult to notice, especially when it's placed near the street.
