Playa del Carmen Steps Up Security for Día de Muertos Celebrations
The government of Playa del Carmen is ramping up security measures for Día de Muertos, with a special focus on the safety of visitors to the city's cemeteries. This year, Estefanía Mercado has announced an enhanced operation involving personnel from Protection Civil, Firefighters, and paramedics.

According to Darwin Covarrubias, the secretariat of Protection Civil, Prevención de Riesgos, and Firefighters will maintain a presence in both municipal cemeteries in Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras. They will conduct patrols to identify potential risks and offer support to the public.
Free medical care will be available at both cemeteries, with paramedics and ambulances on standby to respond to any medical emergencies. The city administration is aiming to ensure that visitors can enjoy the festivities without worrying about their health.
Additionally, the Secretariat of Public Safety will work in coordination with the Protection Civil team. This collaboration aims to strengthen security and risk prevention efforts during the holiday period.
The authorities are anticipating a large number of families and tourists visiting the cemeteries. They have issued safety recommendations, such as being careful with candles and keeping walkways clear to ensure easy movement and the passage of emergency vehicles.
