Why do ESL/EFL teachers say their salary is not enough for living in Thailand?

I've seen many EFL teachers in various subreddits mention that a 35k-50k baht monthly salary is not enough for living in Thailand. However, I see many Thais can live with a good quality of life on less than 35k baht monthly salary. I'm wondering why this is the case.

Thai locals have an advantage when it comes to finding good deals on everyday items. Their knowledge of the local area and culture allows them to navigate the market more effectively than expat teachers.

The main reason for dissatisfaction among teachers is often rooted in their expectations and the quality of life they're accustomed to in their home countries. What constitutes a good quality of life can vary greatly from person to person. For instance, Filipino teachers tend to be more content with their salaries, as 35,000 baht is a significant improvement over what they would earn back home, and their overall standard of living is higher here.

Unrealistic lifestyle expectations are a major contributor to teacher dissatisfaction. Some individuals struggle to adapt to the realities of living on a modest income in Bangkok. This can involve compromises such as long commutes, basic accommodation, and a diet of local food. While some people can adjust to this lifestyle, others find it difficult to make ends meet.

I earn around 50,000 baht per month in a city outside of Bangkok, which is sufficient for my needs. I support a wife and baby, and although I'm not saving much, I'm able to cover my expenses. My fixed costs include a 7,500 baht rent for a three-bedroom house and 10,000 baht for bills. I also own a motorbike, which reduces my transportation costs to around 600 baht per month. In addition to my fixed costs, I spend around 10,000 to 15,000 baht per month on food and 10,000 baht on baby expenses. I manage to save around 5,000 baht per month.
