Mt Agung - need proper hiking boots?

I'm planning a first long stay in Bali and I've read plenty of info on the climb, but I didn't bring boots on this trip, only tennis sneakers that are quite worn out.

Mt Agung is an amazing hike, but it's also the hardest thing I've ever done. I definitely should have brought hiking boots.

There's a lot of scree near the top, so that's something to consider.

You don't necessarily need proper hiking boots unless you need the support. I've done ultra trail races in Bali with basic Nike trail race shoes.

Good sneakers are better than hiking boots, unless it's really wet.
