Why are the bananas at HEB not ripening properly?

I've noticed the bananas I buy at HEB taste weird and don't ripen like they used to. I've had to throw out my smoothies because of it. Has anyone else experienced this?

I recently got a batch of bananas that have a strange skin texture and seem to be resistant to ripening. They're similar to some other bananas I've encountered, but I'm not sure if they're just a weird variety or if there's something else going on.

Yes, I've noticed that some bananas develop dark lines on their sides instead of the usual brown or black spots that appear as they overripe.

I had a similar experience with bananas that turned brown overnight and developed a brown, gooey interior.

Based on my research, it seems that these bananas are likely affected by banana fungus, and it's best to discard them to avoid any potential health risks.

It's worth noting that bananas that turn from green to brown are often not exposed to ethylene gas before being placed in stores, which is how bananas are typically artificially ripened. This has led to complaints from some consumers in recent years about bananas not ripening properly.

I've switched to buying organic bananas after getting tired of the poor quality of regular bananas. So far, the organic ones have been a better option for me, and they're not too expensive either.

Did you buy plantains?
