I'm getting my car tinted and I'm deciding between 5% and 15% for the side windows, and I'm wondering if I should do the windshield between 20-30%.

When ceramic tint is used, the differences between 5, 15, and 25 percent are relatively minor in terms of UV and heat rejection. A middle-of-the-road tint is often a good choice because it significantly reduces the fishbowl effect without compromising nighttime visibility, allowing you to see the road clearly even in low-light conditions.

I prefer to use a clear, IR reject film on my windshield because it provides excellent heat rejection without obstructing my view. I've installed 15% tint on the front and rear glass, 5% on the backseat, and 90% on the windshield. The result is a car that remains perfectly dark during the day, yet I can still drive easily at night.

Even clear or IR reject film may not be compliant with Arizona's regulations. Windshield tint must meet specific standards, and any loss of visibility below the AS1 line is not allowed.

A 90% tint is almost invisible, making it difficult to distinguish from clear glass. However, drivers with obvious tint can be a concern, especially at night when it's harder to see.

It's worth noting that Arizona law restricts front window tint to 33% or less and prohibits tinting windshields below the AS1 line. My back windows are approximately 15% tinted, and while I can see out okay at night with some light source, it's essential to strike a balance between aesthetics and visibility.

When choosing a ceramic tint, consider the impact on aesthetics rather than heat rejection. Opt for a tint that prioritizes safety at night and avoid extremely dark shades.

Going too dark with windshield tint can significantly impair nighttime visibility, particularly for individuals with vision impairments or age-related conditions. This can lead to difficulties seeing the road, especially in low-light conditions.

Liability is another factor to consider when choosing windshield tint. In the event of an accident, excessive tinting could lead to liability issues if the responding authorities or insurance adjuster determine that it contributed to the accident.
