How crowded does Julian get on a Saturday in October?

I'm driving from San Diego to Julian for the first time tomorrow and I want to experience some fall vibes. I just want to know what I'm getting myself into.

The town isn't very large, so free street parking gets taken up quickly. A paid parking lot is available, but it can be busy.

The pumpkin patches in the area can be quite crowded. Weekends are especially busy when the weather is nice, but it's rare for the crowds to be so bad that the experience is ruined, except during winter or spring snow days.

The town will be very crowded. To avoid long wait times, make dinner reservations in advance. If you want to buy a pie, be prepared for a wait of at least 30 minutes. Consider eating before you go, visiting a nearby winery, and then buying a pie on your way home.

Get to the popular spots very early to avoid long lines. We visited last weekend and it was beautiful and fun, with many other visitors. It's still worth going, but be prepared to make lunch or dinner reservations ahead of time or be flexible with your plans. For example, consider getting to lunch around 11 or 11:15 am to secure a table.

As a local, I can tell you that the town will be extremely crowded. Expect heavy traffic from Santa Ysabel to Julian, and long lines for pies at every location. If you have time, consider taking the Southern route from Descanso via the 79, which might be less congested. The detour past Mt. Laguna is also a beautiful option, but it will add some time to your trip. The crowds are unlikely to thin out until May, but it's worth visiting for the experience.

I prefer to avoid the crowds by visiting a pie shop in Santa Ysabel, which has the same pie as the popular shops on Main Street but without the crowds.
