My family and I will be staying at an all-inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta for the winter and I was told the 20 peso bill is obsolete and has been replaced with a coin that they don't have. I'd like to get a bunch of coins for tipping upon arrival.

I'm surprised to hear that 20 peso coins are hard to find. In fact, I've only seen one in the past 10 years, and it was a 20 peso coin.

I've been in Puerto Vallarta for over 15 years and have received 2-3 20 peso coins during that time. Interestingly, I have 3 20 peso bills in my wallet right now.

The 20 peso bill is widely available, just like the 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1000 peso bills. On the other hand, 20 peso coins are extremely rare.

During my 18 months in Puerto Vallarta, I consistently received 20 peso bills, but rarely got 20 peso coins. Interestingly, the coins are similar in size and design to 10 peso coins.

I've received many 20 peso bills during my time in Mexico, and I've only received one 20 peso coin ever since I've been here. It's clear that coins are less common than bills.
