What to do if a yogurt seal is puffed up at a store in Toronto?

I've been seeing Greek yogurt with domed or tight seals at a few different stores over the past few days, and I'm wondering if it's a city-wide thing or just my luck. The ones I've eaten looked, smelled, and tasted fine, but I'm not sure if it's safe to consume.

I've noticed the lids shrink in size, normally 750ml but now it's 650ml. I'm not sure if this is related to the puffed up seals, but it's definitely something to consider when buying yogurt.

I've seen the same thing with sour cream at Farm Boy, so it's not just yogurt. Maybe it's a temperature control issue in the stores?

Some stores have a reputation for over-inflated packages. I suspect it's related to temperature control or the timing of stock replenishment after delivery.

The open-front refrigerators often don't maintain the ideal temperature. I wish they were designed like the closed freezer section.

I agree, I usually grab items from the back of the shelf. This is often where the newer stock is stored, anyway.

I haven't experienced it personally, but I'd be cautious with a package that's significantly swollen. Temperature fluctuations can cause packaging to expand, but gas buildup from spoilage is also possible. I'd avoid consuming those packages and inform the store, especially if you notice it across multiple brands. It's always better to err on the side of caution.
