I've noticed a lot of raccoons in some parks this autumn and even saw one perched in a tree one evening. Is there an increase in the raccoon population in Montreal or is it just my impression?

Not only is the raccoon population out of control, but the government has also issued a warning about a rabies problem in raccoons in Montérégie, Estrie, and central Quebec. If you see a raccoon, keep a safe distance, especially if it doesn't seem scared of you.

It's been about 15 years since there's been a case of rabies in a terrestrial animal in Montreal...

We often hear them in the park across from our apartment. We saw three of them this evening, but it's been a while since the last time.

There's a family of raccoons and foxes near Percival Molson Stadium that hunt for food at night, so be careful in that area.
