Will I still go out with a girl who has herpes?

Will I still go out with a girl who has herpes?

My friend had a conversation with someone and it got me thinking. We were discussing whether it's okay to date someone who has herpes. She's beautiful, intelligent, funny, and has good values. She's been taking precautions and hasn't had an outbreak in a while. She told me that over half the population has herpes, but she had a breakout and has been taking antiviral medication every day to reduce the risk of it happening again. We haven't had sex yet, and she wants to know if I'm still interested in her after this revelation.

As a woman, I wouldn't say no. Many people have partners with herpes, and if she's taking her antivirals and you take precautions, there's nothing wrong with considering a relationship.

Mind you, you can live with HPV and still be a healthy person

Tell your curious friend to check what type of virus she has, and as long as the condition isn't active, there won't be any problems. There are herpes viruses that are common in childhood, and if it's genital, it's treatable, but it's a lifelong condition.

That's right, and basically herpes genital is just the same herpes you get on your mouth, but in more private areas. The problem is that people don't educate themselves about the topic.

There's a lot of misconception in this discussion. People often think herpes is a serious condition like HIV, but in reality, it usually manifests as small red spots, similar to mosquito bites. 67% of the world has it, and most people are unaware they have it. When you get tested, they only check for common infections like HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis, unless you specifically ask for a herpes test.
