What's LUMA's tree cutting policy in Santurce?

I've been noticing LUMA cutting down trees near power lines in Santurce, and it seems excessive. They're cutting down trees that are well-kept and won't reach the lines, and leaving a mess behind. I'm worried about the impact on the environment and the aesthetics of the area. Can anyone tell me if this is part of a larger project or if it's just a case of lazy maintenance?

In my neighborhood Bo. Corral Viejo in Ponce, Wright Tree Services is doing a professional job with Forestry Services, DRNA, and others. LUMA only has personnel to guide them through the neighborhood and locate the power lines. They're doing a plan of mitigation, which is used in forestry, to clear obstacles present and potential in the future.

Property owners are allowed to trim trees up to 12 feet from power lines, but they must ensure easements are clear of trees, regardless of their height or maintenance. If trees on a property encroach on an easement, the owner receives a bill for the necessary pruning.

While it's unclear whether LUMA actually sends bills for this purpose, resolving these issues would likely lead to a significant reduction in problems.

In Louisiana, some parishes require property owners to prune unkept trees near easements, while others do not enforce this rule, and the specific policies vary by parish.

If they don't cut the trees near the lines, it's bad, and if they do cut them, it's also bad. Then they complain when a tree falls on the lines and they're without power for three days. And the trees here seem to be all fertilized because they grow so fast.
