How to avoid sand fly bites on Koh Samui beaches?

My family and I are planning to visit Koh Samui for a week, and I'm concerned about the sand flies. We'll be spending a lot of time at the beach, and I want to make sure we don't get bitten too much.

I've found that using DEET-based insect repellent, covering our skin with clothing and a towel over the sand when we're not in the water helps to prevent bites. I've also heard that pantyhose can be used as a makeshift covering for our skin when we're sitting on the beach.

If you do get bitten, you can try getting some antihistamine cream from a pharmacy like 7-11 and twisting the cap to release the liquid. Dabbing it on the affected area can help relieve the itching.

I always use a towel over the sand and apply coconut oil to my skin before going to the beach. It seems to help prevent the sand flies from biting me.
